The Whitney M. Young Jr. Job Corps Center provides on-the-job training to help individuals find the career that’s right for them! Job Corps is fully funded by the federal government and is FREE to students and their families, and offers hands-on career technical training in high-growth industries. They can also help individuals get a GED or high school diploma. The Whitney M. Young Job Corps Center fully supports the Job Corps program’s mission to teach eligible young people the skills they need to become employable and independent and place them in meaningful jobs or further education. This organization also offers career planning, on-the-job training, job placement, driver’s education and English language learning, along with benefits including residential housing, food service, health and dental care, a bi-weekly basic living allowance, and a clothing allowance.
AFTER GRADUATION Before and after graduation, this organization will assist students in conducting a job search and can help with connections to resources relevant to healthcare, housing, legal assistance, and childcare. For six months after graduation, a Job Corps Career Transition Specialist will keep in touch with each student to make sure things are going well in their new careers. They also have agreements with community colleges and related institutions to teach career courses and to have individual students take courses to gain college credit, and they can work with students to help them transfer into college programs when appropriate.
Louisville Beauty Academy was launched specifically with the goal to enable the working community people to acquire a beauty license. Students may enroll and start anytime, almost immediately. Students are required to be on a set schedule and can work with the school enrollment office for the accommodation of a specific set schedule. LBA offers tuition matching, and is proud to be the “most community-friendly, and affordable beauty institute in Kentucky.” LBA works with graduates to ensure that at least 90% are employed and working in the beauty industry. To date, operating during the past four years, LBA has graduated hundreds of students.
Louisville Central Community Center is a non-profit, community-based organization that offers a variety of programs and services to support adults in the workforce, along with emerging entrepreneurs. Employment services and job training for adults, money management and homeownership are just some of the services provided in addition to those listed below. Programs include:
– Working Solutions: Employer and job seeker service which helps to connect the right candidate to the right positions. Job seekers may also access other services such as assistance with resume building, search and placement assistance, and mock interviewing.
– Money Matters Club: A financial coaching club that offers 1:1 financial coaching support to help participants achieve goals in the areas of asset attainment, budgeting and savings, credit attainment and repair, and much more. This program also works to alleviate barriers to goal achievement such as low wage employment, childcare issues, housing, and transportation issues.
– Adult Basic Education (GED): In partnership with JCPS we offer FREE GED classes to individuals interested in obtaining their GED.
– Skill Up Webinar Series: A technology skills training program to help both entrepreneurs and family leaders compete in our ever-changing world. This webinar series is aimed at providing information about certifications in artificial intelligence, data analytics, and cyber security.
– Entrepreneurship Training Program & Be Your Own Boss (BYOB) Network: Offers networking and training opportunities to both budding and experienced entrepreneurs.
Webster University helps you take your career to the next level with 60+ undergraduate, graduate, and certificate programs! This institution knows that their students need flexibility when it comes to the classroom, which is why they offer programs either online or in-person. Webster University offers four-year degrees, accelerated master’s degrees, doctoral programs, certificates, and professional development series — all with more than 160 program offerings and a variety of flexible study options.
MASPark serves employers who offer ongoing training and certification opportunities to employees, professionals, and students seeking to advance their skills. Served by approximately 3,500 square feet of training space, the Training and Workforce Development Center includes a welding lab, equipment labs for advanced manufacturing technology and green energy training, a 25-seat computer classroom, and a wide range of equipment to facilitate hands-on learning. MASPark’s Training and Workforce Development Center offers students of all ages ample opportunity to study and earn sought-after certifications in progressive fields. The state-of-the-art communication center complements onsite instruction through virtual audiovisual training with remote colleges and universities.
YouthBuild Louisville is a full-time program that helps young people ages 18-24 earn their high school diploma or GED while getting hands-on training and work experience in the Construction Trades, Urban Conservation Corps, Professional Medical Careers or Culinary Field. This program serves as an education, job training, and leadership program that provides opportunities for participants to realize their potential as active community leaders and an educated workforce for Louisville. YouthBuild Louisville assists young people in meeting significant life goals, such as preparing for college and careers, by providing services in education, vocational training, community service, case management, placement, and post-graduation support. Cedar Lake works to to engage individuals in the community while promoting independence, self-sufficiency, and spiritual health. Cedar Lake Employment Specialists focus on aiding job seekers in obtaining a meaningful job. Specialists help job seekers to find a job within competitive employment that both earns a living wage and provides a satisfying career while building natural relationships and in the workplace. In addition, this organization offers vocational rehabilitation services to assist individuals with their goals to reach their employment outcomes. Counselors are assigned to each case to discuss guidance and assessments that focus on person-centered initiatives.
Adelante Hispanic Achievers is a non-profit, volunteer-based organization chartered with a mission to inspire and empower Hispanic youth to become self-sufficient, successful individuals who have the tools they need to achieve their dreams and participate as creative, educated world citizens. Their programming focuses on the holistic development of their students, including academics, career exploration, cultural awareness, plus personal and social development. Adelante provides long-term educational guidance, programming and resources to students from grades 6-12. All Adelante programs and services are provided free of charge.
