Jefferson BuiLT (Building Trades Leadership Training) is an employer-supported apprenticeship-style program. Apprentices will work for one of the program’s partner employers while taking classes. One day each week, apprentices will be in the classroom taking courses in carpentry, plumbing, electrical safety, blue print reading, and leadership. All of these (about 30 credit hours in total) count towards a diploma or associate degree in Construction Technology, Plumbing or HVAC. If an apprentice finishes their program and stays employed, it could lead to a full-time position. Not only will students get professional instruction so they can do the work, but they’ll also receive the training they need to be a leader in their fields!

The Louisville Teacher Residency (LTR) program was created by Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS) with a commitment to empower prepared and culturally responsive teachers for all students. LTR is a one-year, urban teacher-preparation program for individuals with limited to no teaching experience. Residents receive personalized instruction throughout the process to help them become successful in JCPS classrooms. The LTR program creates a diverse teacher workforce that transforms educational outcomes of all students through courageous conversations, racially equitable instruction, culturally responsive teaching, and meaningful reflection. The Excel Center, created by Goodwill of Central and Southern Indiana, is a full service non-traditional high school for all ages and languages in Clark County Indiana. Graduates receive a free Indiana Core 40 high school diploma, plus a post-secondary occupational certification of preference. The school provides free day care for its students, as well as transportation options, flexible scheduling, coaching and support, along with assistance with college and career pathways. Teach Kentucky launches the education careers of ambitious college graduates in Louisville, Kentucky’s public schools. The organization has grown from bringing two teacher candidates in its first year to annually bringing a new 40-45 person cohort of aspiring teachers from across the nation to our city. Once they are here, teachers have found a home to stay and build their professional and personal lives.
Teach Kentucky is known for its community, which is one of the primary reasons teachers thrive in Louisville. Their veteran teachers are committed to helping the newer cohort members which often leads to innovative collaboration and long-lasting friendships.
RightChoice has dedicated teachers with a desire to help train the next generation of nurse aides and nurses. We offer small clinical class sizes (8 students) to allow for more personal, individualized attention. RightChoice Healthcare Training Institute offers online coursework and provides the clinical/practical training in a simulated clinical setting at their facility on Hurstbourne Pkwy. The training center is also open and available by appointment on non-class days for students to watch videos and practice skills.

Once you’re accepted into KY FAME, you will begin work on a combination education/training program to earn certification as an Advanced Manufacturing Technician (AMT). You will attend classes at a local community college two days a week and work 24 hours a week for a local employer – all while being paid a competitive wage for your work. After five semesters you will have earned an associate degree in Applied Science in Industrial Maintenance Technology-Advanced Manufacturing Technician Track, 68 to 71 college credit hours, two years of work experience and the AMT certification. At that point, you’ll be ready to enter the workforce full time with all the skills needed to succeed—and with the potential of no school debt!

Kentucky School of Phlebotomy is a dynamic educational institution focused on community education and specializing in training for phlebotomy and related health careers. This institution is committed to teaching the essential fundamentals for starting a career in healthcare, and students gain valuable experience in both hands-on skills and understanding the theories essential to practice. The KY School of Phlebotomy’s primary goal is to share experiences in the field of medicine to produce students whose skills are exceptional and whose understanding of safety is superior. This school consists of experienced professionals who provide students with the personal attention they need to succeed.
This program provides students with skills and training in order to succeed as a phlebotomist. The course contains 6-weeks of lecture, discussion, and practical instruction in the lab, followed by a 40-hour clinical externship at a local patient service center, hospital, or clinic. The hours of the externship are site-specific, but are usually done over the space of one week, Monday through Friday. This is a larger time commitment but the externship is a valuable clinical experience.
The Software Guild has coding boot camps to help you break into software development or to advance your programming career. With their apprentice-level boot camps in Java and .NET/C#, you can learn the skills you need for your first programming job and start a whole new career. Students will learn from instructors with years of industry experience in a hands-on, project-based format so they can acquire practical skills they can apply immediately. Their flipped instruction approach ensures that time in the classroom is valuable and that students can work on projects in a way that makes sense to them.
The Prosser Career Education Center is committed to providing multiple comprehensive programs and work-based learning experiences to all students. Prosser offers 26 different exciting Career and Technical programs with work-based learning activities. These programs allow students to collaboratively engage with local employers and Prosser instructors for structured learning experiences. These experiences allow students to apply knowledge and skills learned in the classroom and lab to real-world situations. All work-based learning experiences and activities are strategically integrated within the CTE curriculum. Some of this valuable learning will occur within the classroom environment while much of it will occur in a place of business or community organization.
